With Boundaries of Metamorphosis, SCHENKWEITZDÖRFER presents its first exhibition under the new direction of Joana Weitzdörfer. After three decades of successful gallery work by Brigitte Schenk, the handover to her daughter marks the beginning of a new chapter – one that honors the past while opening up fresh perspectives.
The exhibition brings together eight international artists who use ceramics to question boundaries, transform forms, and set materials into motion. Uriel Caspi merges organic shapes with an almost archaeological material language, while Irina Razumovskayaexplores the interplay between decay and permanence in delicately textured surfaces. Soah Kim creates poetic forms inspired by nature and myth, andAngelika Arendtdevelops intricate structures that oscillate between growth and ornament. In Keiyona C. Stumpf’s work, biomorphic volumes fuse with vibrant glazes and sensual coloration, whereas Justina Moncevičiūtè investigates the relationship between space and body through minimalist, texture-focused objects. Livia Marin reflects on transformation, fragmentation, and memory, while Helena Hafemann experiments with sculptural ceramics that embody both movement and stillness.
Boundaries of Metamorphosis approaches metamorphosis not only as a formal transformation but also as a symbolic process – a crossing of physical, cultural, and conceptual borders. The works on view open a dialogue between tradition and experimentation, between craftsmanship and artistic vision.
With this exhibition, SCHENKWEITZDÖRFER makes a clear statement: ceramic art, long overshadowed by other sculptural disciplines, emerges here as an independent, contemporary language capable of addressing global themes as well as the intimacy of its material.
